Swimming lessons with John Lester at Shilbottle Village Farm Swimming Pool: John teaches our child with a physical disability swimming. He has adapted strokes for him, got him diving, snorkelling and entered him into a competition which he has won. Our son loves swimming lessons with John and for the reasons mentioned I would highly recommend him..

Alnwick Garden day out:

We just wanted to let you know about our visit to Alnwick Gardens recently. We used our Max cards so it didn’t cost an arm and a leg to get in it was free! We had a great time looking around the gardens and the boys had a super time playing on the tractors getting very wet. (I would recommend that you should take a change of clothing and a towel if your children have a tendency to be adventurous.) There was good access for pushchairs and wheelchairs. The only problem we experienced was the long wait to be served in the restaurant; I think we will take our own picnic next time. All in all we had a brilliant time we would recommend a visit to anyone.

Together We Can Make a Difference Conference
I attended the "Together We Can Make a Difference Conference" at the Holiday Inn at Seaton Burn in March 2005 with a group of parents and carers from North Northumberland. We were all a bit unsure about what to expect from it, because it was a mix of both professionals and parents.

We found it to be very informative, gathering a lot of useful information. But above all it was a chance to meet other parents who were or had experienced the same problems and difficulties we were all going through. We were able to share our experiences and came away from the conference felling that we were not alone. We also felt that we were able to give the professionals that attended a better insight into the daily problems that parents and carers of children and young people with disabilities are going through.

The conference was a very valuable experience for us all, and thoroughly enjoyable. We are looking forward to next year.
