Young carers are children and young people who provide care for a parent, sibling or family member on a regular basis. This could be as a result of illness, disability, mental health condition or misuse of drugs or alcohol. There are many ways in which young carers are affected by their caring role and why they need support. Many young carers experience barriers to education, isolation, reduced life chances and poor health. This is why it is so important that they get the support that they need.
This section covers a range of support available to young carers.
Helens work involves awarness raising on who young carers are and how they can be supported, Helen mainly works alongside schools, Adult services, Childrens services, the Care Trust and youth projects across the county.
