Training for Parents
In partnership with other agencies and organisations, IN-PACT provides a range of training and information sessions for parents every year. We use these sessions, locality meetings and the annual parents conference to find out about the topics you would like to hear more about.
We will also ensure that any external training and conferences we think may be of interest to parents and professionals working with families; will be displayed on this web page.
Growing up puberty and staying safe...
The time when our children enter puberty and start moving towards adulthood can bring increased concerns for all of us. For parents of children with a learning disability this can be much more complex and stressful leaving us feeling quite overwhelmed.
Like all parents we need to consider what to tell them, when the best time is and how to reinforce the learning about growing up and developing sexually. We want our children to grow up and lead fulfilled lives within their capabilities and above all be safe and to do this we may need to prepare ourselves ahead of the time to help them.
How long will it take me to complete?
The course is delivered over 4 sessions It is an opportunity to consider and share thoughts and feelings about this aspect of our children's development and how we can be a meaningful part of it.
What will be included in the sessions?
- Puberty - physical and emotional changes
- What our children are being taught in schools and what they learn informally from other sources
- Resources that can help us to teach them
- Sexual behaviour and sexual health
- Keeping safe

Confidence & Assertiveness Training for Parents / Carers
Everyone will from time to time lose confidence within their life, whether it is when they have their first child, face redundancy or when a relationship fails.
The course looks at ‘what confidence is and isn't and what assertiveness is and isn't'
We look at situations and environments which enhance and decrease confidence and integrate this with an emotional first aid kit, which is an ideal tool for you to use outside of the class to enable them to feel in more control of situations.
