This section will cover all activities that are inclusive to children who have special needs and disabilites. However, we recommend that you check with each service to ensure that they meet your childs individual needs. Every effort will be made to make sure that the information on this site is accurate and up to date.
FACT Discount Card Scheme is to no longer continue..
An evaluation of the FACT Discount Card Scheme has been conducted with Families by Northumberland Children's Services. The evaluation looked at how often the card is used at sports/leisure centres and other venues in the county
Children's Services has been informed that some venues are no longer willing to accept the card. The outcome of the evaluation has concluded that the FACT Discount Card Scheme is not beneficial to enough families. For this reason, the decision has been taken to discontinue the scheme with immediate effect.
Aiming High - Ability to Play
The new Summer Holiday Time Table for Ability to Play is now available to download please click on the link.
Due to the success of the Saturday morning play session it will now continue indefinitely (not during school holidays) for more information on session times please see table. Download table.
New dates announced for horse riding at the Pegasus riding centre for more information on session times please see table.
For information on our February half term holiday programme which include specific ability to play activities check out our holiday activity programme at www.bval.co.uk or call in to a BVAL managed sports facilities to pick up a copy. Activities include Rock Climbing, High ropes, football and Bowling.

Fusion! Family Fun Festival

A fun day out for all the family!
An Entertainment Marquee featuring, Northumberlands got talent, judged by Metro Radio,Millys performance acadamy, Celidh, Alone tongiht and Tiachi!
There willl be a sizzling summer BBQ, Kayaking, Cycling, Fun fair rides including a bouncy castle, Lip Lee Kite building/flying, scavenger hunt, penalty shootout and loads of arts and craft stalls.

Disability Cricket Family Fun Day
Durham County Cricket Club - The Riverside
Sunday 4th July
11:30am-3pm
Ever thought about getting involved in the exciting game of cricket? If the answer is yes, the this day is for you!
The day is FREE and is aimed at disabled children, disabled adults, their families and friends. There will be lots of different activites and different forms of cricket planned for the day ot suit all impairments and abilities, so the will be something for everyone!
You will also be able to sign up to participate in 6 weeks of FREE inclusive cricket coaching at Riverside.
The day will include, a chance to play all fors of cricket including, table cricket, kwik cricket, visually impaired and deaf cricket, continuous cricket and adapted cricket games. Competitions with plenty of prizes on offer, coaching by top cricket coaches and information on your local inclusive cricket clubs.

Collingwood School Activities for families of children with additional needs & disabilities Summer 2010
Swimming @ Collingwood School Pool
26th July, 2nd, 9th, 16th & 23rd August
10.45 am until 12.15pm
Open to all families. Cost £1 per swimmer. This session can get busy and noisy. At busy times swim session may be restricted to a 45 minute session. No booking required
Fishing @ Higham lake, Ponteland
4th, 11th & 18th August
10am until 3.30pm
With Kevin Dawson from Northumbria Fly fishing. Places must be booked. Transport is available from Collingwood School, which also must be booked - No cost. Sessions are restricted to children with additional needs or disabilities only
Collingwood Family Day
12th, 13th 19th & 20th August
10am until 3pm
An informal drop in session lasting from 10am until 3pm. Play area is enclosed, allowing the children to enjoy the aerial slide, and climbing apparatus without parents worrying about ‘stranger danger' and the child running off! Refreshment will be available. At 1.30pm on each day the swimming pool will be open to all children attending the session for an hour. Cost is £1 per swimmer. Sessions are restricted to children with additional needs or disabilities only
